In her work Dr. Burima focuses on helping individuals to understand themselves better, communicate more effectively, and solve their problems. She helps families to live together in peace and harmony. One of Dr. Burima's main strengths is her ability to get her clients (including young children) to share openly with her their true feelings and thoughts.
For over twenty-five years Dr. Burima has provided child, adult, couple, and family therapy. She is a Child Specialist and Divorce Coach with the Collaborative Family Practice Group (CFP). Dr. Burima is qualified to work as a Parenting Coordinator with families in high conflict and to help them implement a parenting plan. She also has considerable experience in completing psychological assessments and writing reports for the Court.
In 2003 Dr. Burima joined the CFP in Victoria. With the CFP Dr. Burima helps families develop constructive plans for the future, keep control over their lives in a private matter, improve their communication, and when children are involved, focus on the welfare of their children and long term positive relationships. Family members feel that they are listened to more, understood better, and treated more fairly.
Dr. Burima's background is solid and varied: she holds a Ph.D. from the University of Alberta; she has taught Psychology and Sociology; she developed and ran a residential treatment centre for severely disturbed children and their families; she worked as a BC Child and Youth Mental Health Co-ordinator.
Currently (2007) Dr. Burima is co-chair of the CFP. As well, she has served on the executive for the past two years. In March 2007 she presented at the First European Conference of Collaborative Family Practice in Vienna, Austria.
In her spare time Dr. Burima enjoys tennis, cooking, reading, films, bridge, and occasionally letting loose with a Puccini aria (she has studied voice and loves opera).
